Nederland, COOriginally an awkwardly boxy log home with a staircase that bisected the interior space, the scope of the project was to reconfigure the main circulation spaces of the home and remodel a poorly detailed structure. The client, who assisted in much of the work, wanted the house to honor the materials used and to create a tactile yet simple home. A small addition gave the building a defined entry, permitted the stairs to be moved and provided a handmade touch with a sculpted log truss. The interior layout was opened up and the kitchen reoriented, allowing the magnificent views to the west to be seen from all the main living areas. “Character” logs were taken from the site and the structural logs were locally sourced beetle killed pine. Many of the deconstructed materials from the remodel were reused in the project.
